Caribbean Cultural Centre - 1st Place : 2004
Charge: Eligible persons were asked to submit an Architectural and Environmental Design of a Complex of connected Buildings to form a Cultural Centre for the campus of the University of Technology Jamaica.
The Centre was expected to house a theatre for the performing arts, an exhibition Lobby space for the visual arts, studios for training and practice in a variety of artistic disciplines, encouraging study and research.
Main Concept: The solution proposed represents a complex of independent buildings loosely connected by a series of “outdoor rooms”. This site arrangement allows each building to preserve its own identity whilst responding to very different program requirements. The “outdoors spaces” articulate the different entities and unify the composition.
The structural concept, acoustical and lighting proposals, to varying degrees, also underscore the ideas expressed above.
